While some foods are highly recommended for our evening meals and well-being, others should be avoided at all due to the risks of digestion problems, stomach pain, abdominal discomfort and above all severely disturbed sleep. This is the case, for example, with milk, garlic or cold cuts ... Here are the 10 foods not to eat at night for a light (and restorative) night!

1) Milk

Milk, and more particularly lactose, are difficult to digest, especially in adulthood. We therefore avoid it as much as possible in our diet, especially in the evening.

2) Garlic

In general, garlic is poorly digested and causes excess acidity. Reflux and stomach trouble can ruin your night, so if you're having a hard time tolerating it, eat it at lunchtime.

3) The cold cuts

Deli meats are rich in lipids and even more precisely in saturated fat and cholesterol. We therefore absolutely avoid consuming it in the evening since we will not be able to eliminate these excess fat through sport.

4) Cheese

Concentrated lactose and animal fats and calories, cheese is preferred in the morning rather than in the evening. If invited, we prefer fresh goat cheeses, more digestible. On all occasions, one absolutely avoids consuming at the same time cheeses made from cow's milk and others made from goat's or sheep's milk: this mixture increases the risk of bloating.

5) Dry vegetables

Rich in fiber, pulses (chickpeas, beans, ...) tend to ferment during digestion, and cause bloating. We prefer to consume them in small quantities and rather at lunch.

6) Frying

In the same way as cold meats, fried foods, full of lipids and vegetable oil, should be avoided to ensure a light and rapid digestion and to avoid the feeling of heavy stomach in the evening.

7) Red meat

Rich in protein and animal fats, red meat requires several hours before being digested. To sleep better, therefore, avoid overloading the stomach with red meat at dinner.

8) Dishes in sauce

Many sauces are made with cream or butter, i.e. fat and lactose and therefore two reasons for having trouble digesting them.

9) Chilli

The capsaicin contained in the peppers would have a beneficial action on the digestion by making it possible to stimulate the intestinal secretions. Unfortunately, this action is double-edged because it is also at the origin of the sensation of "heat" which one recognizes with the peppers and which can cause irritations and burns of the digestive system.

10) Raw vegetables

The fibers in raw vegetables are much harder and harder on the intestinal mucosa than the fibers in cooked vegetables. In the evening, we therefore prefer cooked vegetables, whole, mashed or in soup.

Finally, to improve digestion, do not forget to eat slowly and calmly, take the time to chew every bite, and above all, avoid sugary snacks!
